gaudi inspiration

I know I went to Greece on holiday, and not Spain, but there was a gorgeous book about Gaudi in our second villa, and I couldn't help myself, I had to have a little peek every day. I'd love to go back to Barcelona one day, just to draw (hey, maybe I'll go by myself!!). I'm hoping to incorporate some of his lovely shapes into my work....

T-1 for the BIG 4-0 party... spent all day cleaning the house. I want a cleaner for my birthday present. I have better things to do than clean windows and do the dusting!!!

finding inspiration in the strangest places

ok, weird I know, but I do think it's really strange where you can find simplest things that inspire you. I always take my sketch  books on holiday but it's quite rare that I actually ever feel like I have time to sketch because there is always so many other things to do, sight-seeing, swimming, eating, and one holiday-luxury which I love.... reading! (i devoured five books in two weeks!) This holiday, with it being for two weeks, we really had the opportunity to unwind and really just 'be' so I did get my sketchbook out and do some doodling...

We were sat in a gorgeous restaurant, Polyphemus, in a beautiful little village on Ithaca. It was one of those real 'holiday finds' that you have to revisit before you go home, set under olive trees in a beautiful quaint garden, decorated with twinkly fairy lights strung amongst the trees, oil lamps, old painted watering cans, pretty glass jars. I noticed that they had some gourds hanging from a line above the top part of the garden, and I just had to take a photo (not brilliant but it was evening and it was getting dark). There was something about the collection of shapes that I really liked.

Anyway, long story short, I started to explore the shapes the following week, whilst relaxing in the hammock, and this is what I came up with. I'm not sure quite how I am going to use them but they are definitely going to appear somewhere soon in my new work.....

Yassou!!

I have a few exciting things in the pipeline too, an exhibition with my Nottinghamshire Creative Group, a shop, a couple of fairs, so it's all go... I also have the a 'big' birthday coming up, with lots of celebrations. They say life begins.... bring it on that's what I say!!!

Handmade Tiles

Well look what Mr Postman brought me this morning.... a lovely batch of handmade tiles which I've been working on with the ceramicist Charlottle Stockley, who very kindly made the tiles and fired my designs onto them for me. I'm so pleased with the results. I just need to decide how I can frame them/costs etc to decide whether this may be a viable option for expanding my product range. The tiles are a gorgeous light grey and the black designs just seem to work with this lovely natural background. I'd love to know what you think of them.

As for other stuff, it's been a while since I have had any studio time as I've been working hard through August in the land of pills and pharmaceuticals, so this week I have three lovely days to spend getting my act together and getting back into my art work. My studio has become a bit of a dumping ground lately for boxes and old rugs, camping chairs and dust sheets, so I decided that I needed to have a bit of a tidy up before I could sit down and begin my work, it's just a 'thing'of mine, maybe bordering on OCD, who knows, I just need to have a tidy workplace before I can start! Needless to say, I didn't get any work done but the studio is calling me today and I'm off up there in a wee while to get some stuff done. the 'to-do' is MASSIVE, so I need to get focussed and turn of the computer!!
